World Oral Health Day

Oral health is very important for overall health. Many oral problems, if detected early, can prevent major complications. To emphasize the importance of maintaining oral hygiene, we celebrate World Oral Health Day on March 20th of every year.

It is necessary to care for the mouth from the early stages of life to later years.

The theme for the year 2026 is “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life.” This is part of a three-year campaign from 2024 to 2026.

Why the number 20?

It highlights the fact that every healthy adult should have 20 teeth at the end of their life, and it also signifies the number of deciduous or milk teeth.

Simple Daily Habits for a Healthy Smile:

  1. Brushing teeth twice daily
  2. Flossing regularly
  3. Routine dental check-ups every six months

Oral health is generally neglected, and this proves that oral diseases are among the most common non-communicable diseases, affecting 3.5 billion people.

All dentists, dental associations, and colleges should come together to strive for a healthy oral cavity for all age groups of people.
