In healthcare and pharma, ethical decisions aren’t just theoretical - they happen every day.
What do you do when
You’re asked to overlook a minor error?
A colleague takes credit for your work?
Do you witness something that could harm a patient or consumer?
Here’s what truly matters:
Integrity - Always choose honesty, even when it’s uncomfortable
Confidentiality - Respect patient data and company secrets.
Accountability - Own your actions, both right or wrong.
Speak Up - If something feels wrong, trust your gut and report it through the right channel.
Ethical Challenges aren’t black and white, but your values should be your compass. Stay professional, stay human.
Have you ever faced an ethical dilemma at work or during training? How did you handle it?
Yes i have faced this situation when i used to work as a high school teacher at sri chaitanya school. Even though i kept a lot of efforts to teach the students better to better and the percentage every student scored in my subject physics was exactly 95% yet no body had appreciated me for my work instead of appreciation they said to me that still need more academic performance from students this is not enough. At that time i handled this situation by talking to myself as i am perfect in my work and my students know how i am teaching them so if they will not appreciate me then what happens i have confidence on my subject so i don’t need any appreciation. like this i handled.
Ethical challenges are part of daily work, and how we respond to them reflects not just our professionalism, but also our core values. It’s not always easy to speak up or make the right call, especially when there’s pressure or fear of consequences. But choosing integrity, accountability, and respect for confidentiality builds trust and protects the people we serve. These small everyday decisions define our character and the quality of care we provide. Thank you for highlighting these important points.
Ethics are very important in healthcare. If we ignore small mistakes, it can become big later. I believe we should be honest and report anything that may harm a patient. Even if it feels hard, doing the right thing gives peace. we must learn to speak up and protect people’s health with truth and care.
Yes, this happens to a lot of people in different ways. During my dissertation, I submitted my thesis to my supervisor, and I had a guide under them. Sadly, my guide gave my thesis to another student from their university, and she just copy-pasted and submitted it as her own. Since I was an outsider, I had no support. It was extremely disheartening and unfair.
But situations like this teach us important life lessons. Even when others act unethically, we must hold on to our own values. In the end, it’s not just the degree that defines us; it’s our behaviour, integrity, and humanity. Always stay honest and respectful, even if others don’t. These challenges are never black and white, but our response to them reflects our true character. Speak up when needed, and always choose to do the right thing, even when it’s the harder path.
Ethical dilemmas in healthcare aren’t rare, they test your values in real time. I’ve learned that staying silent can sometimes do more harm than speaking up.
Well said, ethical challenges are not only faced in healthcare and pharma but also in our day-to-day lives. We have to be very careful with the decisions we make so that they don’t cause harm to anyone with all accountability, confidentiality and integrity.
