Why people hate Ayurveda?

I wnat to know the real reason behind why people think the knowledge which was written centuries ago gets the disgust and think all ayurveda doctors are quacks ?? I often heard when I am ayurveda student ,the first thing people always says to me is oh “Do you means the fake doctors who use plants to treat patients?”

Aastha’s frustration is understandable. Ayurveda, one of the world’s oldest medical systems, is often dismissed unfairly. The reasons behind this perception are complex and rooted in a mix of societal, scientific, and cultural factors:

  1. Lack of Scientific Validation (in modern terms)
  2. Misuse & Misrepresentation
  3. Colonial Hangover
  4. Lack of Awareness

I think many people see ancient knowledge like Ayurveda as outdated because it wasn’t written in “modern” scientific language or tested by today’s methods. There’s also a lot of misinformation and some unqualified practitioners that damage its image. But true Ayurveda is a deep, evidence-rooted system that deserves more open-minded study and respect.

It may be mainly due to lack of awareness.
Ayurveda will take te to cure as compared to allopathy.
Also some people can cause side effects against some medications and also they gate it due to it’s taste.

1.	Lack of scientific evidence – Some Ayurvedic treatments lack modern clinical trials.
2.	Slow results – It often takes time to show effects, unlike fast-acting allopathy.
3.	Misuse and fake products – Commercialization has led to poor-quality or unsafe remedies.
4.	Complex regimens – Diet and lifestyle rules can be hard to follow.
5.	Misinformation – Some practitioners or promoters make exaggerated or false

I am really sorry for that. It hurts when people dismiss Ayurveda as fake as a whole. Yes, it’s ancient and most of the things are not scientifically proven but that doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant. The real issue isn’t the system, it’s when people misuse it. Not every Ayurvedic doctor is a quack, just like not every modern doctor is flawless. I wish people would see the intent behind it.

Maybe those people are only literate, not educated, I mean, come on Ayurveda believes in treating the whole person not just chasing symptoms ( no offence to other people :sob:)

  • Maybe a lot of people are still not aware of the fact that how significant ayurveda is .
  • People think its just some old kind of science which does not have even any science behind it.
  • People are getting fast these days maybe English medicines are serving them accordingly how they want it nobody nowadays is interested in curing the root cause naturally or in anything which requires their patience and time .

Lack of awareness
Mindset like sticking to modern-day advancement
Longer healing timeline/Taking longer duration to show results
Lack of scientific evidence (in mainstream journals)

I know, it hurts.

But it is the story of almost most of the professions.

But this is not a question but Why it is so? - that’s the question.

In my opinion, these are things which are only said by those people who don’t have much knowledge about any profession. They just make some specific narrative in their minds.

To change this, only we as a medical community, no matter from any medical profession - Should come together. Aware the people about all the fields. Awareness is the only solution.

Many dismiss Ayurveda due to lack of standardized evidence and modern validation, not realizing it’s a deep, ancient science often misrepresented. The real issue lies in poor regulation and misinformation not the system itself.

I think it stems from ignorance… People think only allopathy is the correct medical science while the sciences don’t hold much value.

Yes , and i am happy that ayurveda is progressing as they now focused on scientific evidence of phytochemical composition of plants which is use as drugs in a treatment :leaf_fluttering_in_wind::herb:

People often criticize Ayurveda because they perceive it as unscientific, slow-acting, or lacking standardized research. In reality, much of the skepticism comes from a lack of understanding or exposure to its principles. When integrated thoughtfully with modern medicine, Ayurveda can offer powerful, holistic benefits.

I’m sorry that you had to go through it …I feel ayurveda is not hated just that people find it not reliable enough because of lack of experiments and evidences . The allopathy medicine we practice is evidence based that’s why people trust it more
