Why Girls in Hostel commonly gets Anaemia?

It is observed that girls staying in hostels gets weak and sometimes suffers from diseases like anaemia. Let’s understand some common reasons of this:

  • Poor Iron intake - Hostel mess food contains more of carbs and very less iron-rich foods ,which can reduce hemoglobin . Around 50% of aneamia cases are beacuse of iron deficiency.
  • Irregular eating habits - Skipping meals, dieting or relying on snacks / junk foods lowers micronutrient intakes.
  • Higher body demands - In adolescence , demand of nutrients increases due to growing metabolism , not fulfilling that can reduce normal values.
  • Menstrual blood loss- In adolescence egular cycles increases iron requirements, if diet doesn’t compensate , anaemia risk rises.
  • Infections/Worm infestations - It can worsen iron deficiency .

So by reading above mentioned points we can see at different stages of life , demand varies and with that our good diet can help us preventing any deficiency or disease.

women in general in india are anaemic..this is cause by poor food and inadequate food intake and also wrong food combination.

From my personal experience, i really understand how our nutrition gets affected due to lack of quality in our food intake from hostels…it’s our responsibility to take care of our nutrient supply from other sources readily available such as fruits and nuts.

Very true,hostel life often disrupts balanced nutrition, especially iron intake during adolescence. I’ve seen this phase too, and regular iron-rich foods, timely meals, and occasional supplementation helped prevent anemia.

Most of the hostels provide tasteless food for name ’ sake.. This can be one of the main reasons for students to order junk food that is not nutritious.
