Why Do Dreams Disappear So Quickly After We Wake Up? 🌙

This happened to me a few days ago.

I woke up after having one of the most vivid dreams I could remember. For a few moments, I could recall every detail. I even thought, “I’ll definitely remember this later.” But by the time I finished brushing my teeth, almost the entire dream had vanished.

It made me wonder why do dreams fade so quickly?

Interestingly, it isn’t because we have a bad memory. During REM sleep, when most vivid dreams occur, the brain is in a state that isn’t ideal for storing long-term memories. As we wake up and our attention shifts to the day ahead, those fragile dream memories are easily replaced by new information. That’s why dreams can feel incredibly real one moment and almost impossible to recall the next.

I find it amazing that our brain can create an entire world while we sleep, yet quietly let it slip away within minutes.

Have you ever had a dream that felt unforgettable—only to realize you couldn’t remember it a few minutes later?

Every time I have a dream, I’m fascinated by how creative my brain can be. To make sure I don’t forget it, I end up telling multiple people about it or replaying it in my head over and over.

It always happens.I wake up and could remember only few portions of the dream and after few mins or hours that few portion also vanishes.

Dreams are mental experiences in which the brain thinks illogically, using our thoughts, memories, and emotions during sleep.

Dreams are either good or bad, and often fade quickly because the brain stores them weakly during sleep, especially during Rapid Eye Movement sleep, when memory formation is less effective.

Dreams are sometimes fascinating oh how our minds are thinking about various aspects!
Yes, it is very true dreams disappear quickly as we wake and even sometimes we even don’t remember what we have seen and sometimes only a part we remember.
