Across multiple dental colleges, interns are voicing frustration about limited scope and unclear future. Is this burnout or a broken system?
It’s because as per my opinion BDS doesn’t have same value as MBBS in our country so when someone first cleared neet their first preference will be MBBS because everyone think BDS is just waste of time.
It maybe a second choice for many students but let’s be honest dental school is as tough as med school and they are doctors too. Also, it’s both the burnout and the broken system. Burnout of overwhelming syllabus and constant studies. The system has always engraved that MBBS is much much higher in comparison to BDS. It’s high time we stop that. Both the professions are beautiful and both deserve the same respect.
Yes people always prefer bds after mbbs doesn’t work . It is always considered the substitute option for mbbs. Bds also have some value only after they go for higher studies .
Bds is a choice for the aspirants who want to become a doctor after all the struggle they cant get the same value as mbbs people dont even call as a doctor so bds graduate get frustrated but education is never wasted everything has its own value
I think because of lack of opportunities
People dont value or respect them as much as they required .
Every degree deserves some sort of respect.
Maybe because they are not equally respected like MBBS doctors. They choose it more like an second option.
Many BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) interns express regret due to limited job opportunities, high competition, and low initial salaries. The lack of practical exposure during college and unclear career paths also contribute to their dissatisfaction. Without postgraduation or specialization, growth can feel restricted, leading some to question their decision.
Many medical students have the BDS as their second option. And in BDS there are less opportunities which raises the question of, Is this degree is really worth it ?
Lack of opportunities and exposure for BDS are indicators of a broken system, that has forgotten the true value of variety in fields of education.
Due to lack of opportunity.
Same as pharmacy, people take it as 2nd choice. Some of the factors are low pay scale, less opportunity, lack of exposure in curriculum. Less practical and more theoretical knowledge.
This is a sad reality. Many students enter BDS as a backup without real interest, and later face regret due to lack of awareness, job insecurity, and comparison with MBBS. What we need is better career counseling and more structured opportunities post-BDS to help interns see the true value of their field.
Dental interns feel frustrated due to stress, lack of support, and unclear expectations. To help, dental institutions can provide guidance, regular feedback, stress management, and better resources. This can create a more supportive environment for interns.
It’s because of their frustration towards to there work because they are not getting enough recognition, time, efforts and interests and hardworking they are pouring into despite of all struggles they are facing
Lack of opportunities is the only reason.
Even if there is scope there is no one to guide.
Having a non- medico background brings a lot of challenges which I myself is currently facing
don’t worry as pharma student i am with you , even i am regretting this degree
As MBBS students can be employed anywhere with decent package but for BDS they have ranked just after MBBS but they dont own through knowledge of subjects unlike mbbs ,less awarness ,no better job opportunity and they were not even considered if someone get toothache ,they prefer over the counter medications
