When Less Is More for Preterm Infants

Advances in neonatal care have helped many premature babies survive and grow. But over time, we’ve learned something important sometimes, doing less can actually do more.

Preterm babies are very delicate. Their tiny bodies are still developing, and too many procedures or medications can put extra stress on them. That’s why care today is shifting towards being more gentle and thoughtful.

Simple practices like kangaroo mother care, holding the baby skin-to-skin can do wonders. It helps regulate their breathing, heart rate, and temperature, while also creating a strong emotional bond.

Using medications only when truly needed, keeping the environment calm, and handling babies gently can protect their developing organs and support natural growth.

“Less is more” doesn’t mean less care it means the right care, given with sensitivity and purpose.

How can we balance advanced medical care with a more gentle, human touch for these tiny lives?
