Yesterday, my younger sibling was watching a web series. After one emotional scene she looked at me and said, “Why isn’t my life like this?”
That one sentence stayed with me.
It made me realize how today’s generation is growing up surrounded by perfectly written stories, cinematic moments and carefully curated lives on social media. Slowly, many children and teenagers begin comparing their own lives with fictional characters, movie plots or influencers’ highlight reels.
But real life doesn’t have scriptwriters.
It has ordinary days, failures, misunderstandings, unanswered questions and slow progress.
As adults, parents, teachers and siblings, perhaps we need to remind young minds that movies are designed to entertain, while life is designed to be lived. The most beautiful stories aren’t always the ones on screen—they’re the ones we create ourselves.
Have stories and social media changed our expectations of what a “normal” life should look like?
