It’s about 5.5 years.
4.5 years of acedemic+ 1 year internship
First year is preclinical: anatomy, physio, biochem

Second year is paraclinical: patho, micro, pharma

Third year has two parts
Part 1: clinical: community medicine, fmt
Part 2: clinical: medicine, surgery, paediatrics, OBG, Ortho, psychiatry, etc.

But classes of CM starts from 1sr year only. But exam will be taken in third year part 1.

Similarly classes of surgery, medicine, obg, ortho, paediatrica also starts from 2nd year with our any exams.

And in first year we have hospital visits weekly and from second year we have clinical posting where we just observe stuff, third year clinical posting gets a bit serious too.

With this we have a family adoption program also. From first year onwards.

Need about 50% marks in practical and viva to pass. And here whatever you write you won’t be allotted full marks in any answer of any exams best answer will only get like 12-15 out of 20 for example.

So yea it’s a pretty adventurous journey.

Interesting question! Years back, MBBS in India used to be structured like 4 1/2 years + 1 year of compulsory rotary internship. The structure is still the same, but four and 1/2 years were divided into 3 MBBS: each of 1 1/2 years duration.
First MBBS: All non clinical subjects like anatomy physiology, biochem
2nd MBBS: Micro, path, pharmaco , FM
Final MBBS: All clinical subjects.
SPM/ Community med classes started from first year and will continue throughout the clam.
