Serotonin syndrome is a potentially life-threatening condition caused by too much serotonin in the body, usually due to drug interactions. Symptoms include agitation, confusion, high fever, muscle rigidity, tremors, and rapid heart rate. It requires immediate medical attention.

Causes of Serotonin Syndrome:

Use or overdose of serotonergic drugs like SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, TCAs, tramadol, linezolid, or MDMA Drug interactions (e.g., combining SSRIs with MAOIs)

Management:

Stop the offending drug immediately Supportive care (IV fluids, cooling, oxygen) Benzodiazepines for agitation/seizures Cyproheptadine (serotonin antagonist) in moderate/severe cases Monitor vitals closely—may need ICU care in severe toxicity.
