Understanding Meningitis: When Infection reaches the Brain!!🧠

Meningitis is acute or chronic inflammation of the protective membrane covering the brain and spinal cord, known as meninges.

Symptoms:

Meningitis can progress rapidly, early recognition saves lives.

Common symptoms include:
• Severe headache (sudden and intense)
• High fever and chills
• Stiff neck (difficulty touching chin to chest)
• Nausea and vomiting
• Sensitivity to light (photophobia)
• Drowsiness or confusion
• Seizures (in severe cases)

In infants:
irritability, poor feeding, constant crying, or bulging soft spot (fontanelle)

Recently an amoeba is causing the same. The disease is called as Primary Amoebic Meningioencephalitis and caused by an amoeba known by the name of Neigleria Fowleri, which is present in water body and enters the human system through cribriform palate in our olfactory tract.

Meningitis is a true medical emergency where awareness and timely action save lives. I believe stronger vaccination drives and early symptom education especially for parents are vital to prevent tragic outcomes.
