Turmeric and Black Pepper: Unpopular Soulmates!

Turmeric and Black Pepper has been used in cooking separately and together for ages. In Ayurveda, they have been used for the preparation of medicine (mostly together). Is it just a coincidence?

Curcumin, an active ingredient present in turmeric provides many benefits to the heart, brain and joint health because of its anti- inflammatory and anti- oxidant properties. Piperine, an active ingredient present in black pepper also has similar properties and helps in managing diabetes, obesity, digestion etc.

On the contrary, excessive consumption of curcumin (>2000mg/ day) causes various harm including gastrointestinal issues, liver toxicity along with inhibiting iron absorption in the body. Also, excessive consumption of piperine (>20 mg/ day) causes gastrointestinal distress, reproductive toxicity and even neurological effects.

But when this magic duo comes together, they help each other in optimal absorption resulting in ideal intake to the cells. Also, they help manage inflammation and metabolism in much effective way, preventing over absorption to the body. This happens due to the bioactive compound formed when curcumin and piperine are bound together.

What are some other magic combinations that works best when paired together?
