Trends in medication use in minor health complaints

Recently I worked as a Pharmacist in a reputed Pharmacy franchise. It was a corporate branch with more FMCG products and less Pharma products but would manage to provide required medicines on need to customers.

However, it was a corporate branch the need of medicines isn’t much as a Clinic Pharmacy patients, but customers did came for minor health complaints with Headache, stomach ache, period cramps, irritation in eyes, cold and cough etc. The consumption of drugs even for the cases that was manageable really concerned me. there were all IT and BPO companies where people stress out about work even had to do some night shifts or overtime, neglecting their sleeping and eating habits. These people then would come to our store complaining about minor health symptoms. I as a Pharmacists consultant them by saying take a little bit of rest but they just argued back asking for only medicine.

Taking medicine can give you instant relief from symptoms but taking it quite more often can lead to overdose and resistance to many drugs. People need to take awareness on their health.

Yes there is a much needed awareness for this issue. People are taking medicines directly from the pharmacy stores without consulting a healthcare professional. Some people, even being aware of the havoc it can cause, continue doing the same.

Good one! Very Informative.

Awareness regarding these issues must be raised.
