Absurd and disturbing scenes from Holi celebrations have been emerging from several places across India. Instances of harassment of women, substance abuse, fights, and obscene dancing and behavior are being widely reported—especially in locations that hold religious and cultural significance. The attached screenshot is from an Instagram reel showing such activities at Assi Ghat in Varanasi.
I had visited this place recently with friends, and it is difficult to imagine that a location known for its spiritual and cultural importance could witness such conduct.
Such behavior is deeply disappointing and undermines the sanctity of public and religious spaces. It is important that authorities take note of these incidents and ensure that such actions are addressed through appropriate legal measures.
