As a biotechnology student, I’m currently facing a dilemma: Government university or private university for my master’s?
I completed my bachelor’s from a state university where unfortunately, practical exposure was very limited. The labs were rarely accessible, so many of us had to spend additional money on internships and external training just to gain hands-on experience.
It made me wonder—is a lower tuition fee really cheaper if you have to pay elsewhere to build the skills you need?
I’d love to hear from those who have completed their masters especially from private universities.
Did better infrastructure and lab exposure make a difference?
Did it help during internships, placements or interviews?
Looking back, was the higher fee worth it?
I’m not looking for rankings, I’m looking for real experiences that can help students like me make an informed decision.
I don’t know about biotechnology colleges, because I have a pharma background. In my M. Pharm days, I spent most of the time in the laboratory. It was well accessible for master’s students even after duty hours sometimes. We had a completely separate lab for masters and materials for each student regarding their projects. But I want you to know that all private colleges aren’t the same. So first, do some research; go and check the facilities if possible, then go for admission. If you can connect with the alumni of that college, that will help you to know better about the faculty and facilities of that college.
I completed my masters from a private college. Although we did have lab access, there was lots of limitations. I think it highly depends on the institutes. How they provide access to students. Connect with alumini’s. Ask them how they experienced and also the ones studying at present in college, how their labs are, guidance’s or placements, not just access to labs but also the lab equipment’s and infrastructures present before choosing the college. And, for me my PG project gave the real exposure, entirely different from college.
