Major Challenges in Communication:-
During my clinical experience, some of the challenges faced include:
• Limited knowledge about procedures
• Lack of patience
• Anxiety and fear among patients
• Past traumatic experiences
• Cost of treatment
Ways of Effective Communication:-
To overcome these challenges, Doctors can incorporate into their practice:
• Use simple and understandable language
• Provide accurate and reliable information
• Avoid unnecessary details
Practical Strategies to Improve Communication:-

• Use of flowcharts and models to explain procedures or disease progress.
• Ask patients to repeat or explain the treatment plan in their own words
• Encourage feedback and questions
• Provide multiple treatment options, including financial options like EMI, Ayushman Bharat, or other policies
• Make the patient feel comfortable and heard
Doctors should clearly explain:
• What the disease is ?
• Why it occurs ?
• What the treatment will do ?
• How many visits will be required?
This ensures that patients fully understand the process from start to end, enabling them to make informed decisions and feel confident about their treatment.
