The MBBS udergraduate clinical teaching classes in the various medical colleges are mostly taken by the residents of that particular department.
The students are generally taught about clinical history, taking bedside cases and simple clinical procedures by the residents.
After joining my ophthalmology residency, I had a chance to teach my UG batch. This gave a good opportunity to do in a different way.
Punctuality is important, even when you are on the other side of the desk. As experience is the best teacher, I had a student use simple instruments and demonstration of clinical examination on on each other to get the hands on feeling. I also used to show them videos of procedures & surgeries to get a better understanding of the same. I also had interactive discussion sessions where everyone participated. I ensured that everyone had a chance to interact. And no one was left behind. One of the best feeling, as a teacher is a that student telling you it was a good class.
In what innovative way would you like to teach your juniors when a chance?
