What seniors teach that faculties don’t

Not all things are learned in an academic lecture. Some lessons are absorbed quietly in hostel corridors or over a few cups of chai in the canteen. From surviving your first OPD to handling panic attacks during a viva, seniors teach you what the books or staff ever will. Like which topics they ask every year and how to break bad news with grace, how to handle a difficult guide or how to hold a probe without trembling. They teach one by sharing their mistakes so you do not repeat them. Sometimes, they guide, protect, or may even scold; more like unofficial professors, less like that found in textbooks. It is those informal talks and lessons that build your confidence and clinical presence more than any dusty chapter ever could. That is the hidden syllabus and it is invaluable.

What is the best advice or life hack a senior has ever passed down to you? Put it down here, we all could learn at least something from it.

The best advice from my senior was how to tackle the postings and which staff member was more approachable for completing the quotas and learning in general.

This beautifully sums up the magic of the “hidden syllabus”—those late-night pep talks, real-world tips, and honest stories that no textbook ever mentions. Some of the best lessons truly come from seniors who’ve walked the path just before us.
