Ozempic, The diabetes drug turned viral weight-loss injection is under severe medical scrutiny, facing 2 billion dollars worth of lawsuits due to alleged claims of severe side effects ranging from stomach paralysis to even vision loss.
Novo Nordisk, the company responsible for Ozempic continues to deny all allegations, stating that the drug is not harmful when used as directed, but the argument that not all side-effects were disclosed to consumers still prevails. The US Food and Drug Adminsistration (FDA) approved this drug as a diabetes only treatment, but the social media hype has resulted in Ozempic being used beyond its intended scope, in turn leading to harmful long and short term side effects in many of its users, while also resulting in dose shortages for diabetes patients that may actually need the medication.
What are your thoughts on this? Is Ozempic truly a so-called “Quack-medicine“? Or is it the misuse of the drug that has resulted in such terrible news? Share your thoughts.
