Smart tips for selecting the right banana

Let’s learn to choose naturally ripened bananas from the artificially ripened ones. Look for

  • The Stem/Crown:-

Naturally ripened bananas usually have a darkened or blackish stem/crown.
Artificially ripened bananas may stay yellow while the stem remains green.

  • The Color:-

Natural ripening is often uneven, with small brown spots appearing over time.
Forced-ripened bananas may look uniformly bright yellow.

  • Smell the Banana:-

Naturally ripe bananas have a sweet fruity aroma.
Artificially ripened ones may have little smell.

  • Feel the Texture:-

Natural bananas soften evenly inside and out.
Improperly ripened bananas may be yellow outside but hard/chalky inside.

*Important to Know :-

Not all artificially ripened bananas are harmful.

Ethylene gas is approved by FSSAI and safe for commercial ripening.
Calcium carbide is banned due to health concerns.

So the real issue is choosing the right chemical, not artificial ripening itself.

Can we choose wisely, eat smart, and stay informed?
