Skills over marks: alumni talk that change my perspective

Your seniors often turn out very different from who they were during their college days.

This happens many times in life where people change and view things from different perspectives.

I realized this at one of the career guidance sessions by our college alumni. A person’s identity is their honesty to admit things get different turns and we become something that we never thought of.

The session was so engaging that time just flew by. He mentioned what growth exactly means. This kind of session is a must to know outer life with clear insights from someone who is in that path.

During college time, we think that academics and marks matter to get a better place in professional life.

But in reality, the whole game changes.

Marks no one asks for after college. What matters is your skills. And how you take a challenge or problems and find solutions.

We all know that healthcare is not just about textbook knowledge. It requires skill to transfer that knowledge into a practical way.

We have to learn teamwork, adaptability, patience, communication skills, and empathy.

Sometimes life takes a turn unknowingly that after many years we realize what our true interest is. It’s not that if we have taken the path of the doctor, then we have to continue clinical practice only.

I have seen that surgeons are using their knowledge of building healthcare companies that help clinicians to maintain sterilization protocols effectively.

So the takeaway point is we don’t have to limit ourselves to what we are doing; continue exploring new things. We never know what God has planned for us.

Share your insights what changed your perspective for career.
