Sedentary life and how it impacts us

How does a sedentary lifestyle impact our physical and mental health, and what are some effective ways to incorporate more physical activity into our daily routines?

Our metabolism keeps on decreasing as we age along with that our muscle mass and strength also reduces.
Sedentary lifestyle promotes unhealthy and binge eating thus promoting obesity, people keep sitting in their rooms and they get no sunlight makes them depressed and anxious, sitting indoors promotes same pattern of thinking while going outdoors promotes new flow of ideas, it is also really necessary for regulation of hormones.
We can change our lifestyle by engaging into some sort of any outdoor physical activity, by walking to nearby places instead of taking a car, more walking, playing with children and siblings really burns calories.
Hope it helps!!

I know sitting and chilling all day sounds comfy (and hey, we all do it), but if we make it a habit, it quietly messes with our body and mind — like a slow Wi-Fi that ruins everything

When we sit too much and don’t move enough:
Our blood flow slows down — making our heart, lungs, and even digestion a bit sluggish Calories don’t get burned → body starts storing fat → hello weight gain and sugar spikes
We feel tired even if we’ve done nothing — because our muscles are bored, and bored muscles = low energy Our mood drops, brain fog increases, and overthinking sneaks in (yup, the mind needs movement too!)
Over time, this can invite issues like back pain, weak bones, diabetes, and even heart problems.

A sedentary lifestyle can take a serious toll on both physical and mental health. It increases the risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and weakens muscles and joints. Mentally, it can lead to low mood, anxiety, and reduced focus. The good news is that small changes make a big difference try walking during calls, using stairs, stretching every hour, or setting aside 20 minutes for a home workout. Even light activity improves energy, mood, and long-term well-being.

A sedentary lifestyle has various consequences like:

  • risk of cardiovascular disease
  • obesity and metabolic syndrome
  • musculoskeletal issues
  • reduced immunity
  • cancer risk
  • early mortality
  • cognitive decline
  • anxiety and depression
  • sleep disorders

Thus effective ways to add physical activity to daily life include:

  • take stairs instead of the life
  • walk while on phone calls
  • set a timer for stretching
  • stand or walk during breaks
  • park farther from destination
