Biotechnology is a vast stream with interdisciplinary applications in various fields such as pharmacy , bioinformatics , food and agriculture . Yet many undergraduate BE biotechnology students find it hard to find a job . What may be the reasons for it ? Where can they apply ?
They can find job in pharmaceutical companies, mineral water industries, research institutes.
They can work as biochemist, in mineral water industries to check pH and quality of water.
They can work as microbiologist in hospitals, can become lecturer in colleges.
@subhamahes98 will surely shed some light on this.
While biotech has potential, core biotech companies (like biopharma, agrobiotech, diagnostics) are relatively few in number compared to IT or core engineering sectors.
Also unlike some developed countries, Indian institutions rarely collaborate with biotech industries for curriculum design, internships, or placements. This leads to a disconnect between what students learn and what employers need.
Core biotech companies rarely visit colleges/uni for campus placements. Students often have to hunt for opportunities off-campus, requiring networking, internships, or additional certifications.
If this is the ground reality, I am sure vast potential is being wasted in India in terms of Human resource that is available. Better policy formulation and better implementation must be done.
Biotechnology is still in its growing stage in India, but, opportunities do exist after higher education with experiences in both academia and industry.
As a college student, it’s difficult to get internships, and mostly students have to rely on trainings/ workshops. But if you reach out to food, water, and other testing labs, they do provide you internships, which can act as a starter to your career. Even approaching hospitals for observeship or traineeship in pathology/ rotational labs can be useful.
But, given the current scenario of the market, I feel one should focus on building skills and lean towards more practical experiences if interested in building a career in this. So, keep growing your network, and stay patient.
Biotechnology has a vast scope, encompassing various fields like:
- Healthcare: Developing new medicines, vaccines, and diagnostic tools.
- Agriculture: Improving crop yields, disease resistance, and nutritional content.
- Industry: Producing biofuels, bioplastics, and other bioproducts.
- Environmental Conservation: Bioremediation, pollution control, and conservation of biodiversity.
Biotechnology offers opportunities in research, development, and industry, with applications in:
- Genetic engineering
- Stem cell research
- Biomanufacturing
- Bioinformatics
The field is rapidly evolving, with potential to address global challenges and improve lives.
For where they can apply - There are various companies like Titan biotech, Premas biotech, cryoviva biotech, Genetix [ these i searched for pharma sector] who offers job to the freshers. Start with getting internship in biotech companies, those companies offer you job as well after completion of your internship.
Yes, rightly said. Biotechnology has been growing since last few years and opened many doors to research and discover many new fields in itself. Now biotechnology hasn’t been limited to Agriculture and vaccines but more than that.
Biotechnology has a vast scope, including:
- Medicine (pharmaceuticals, vaccines)
- Farming (genetically modified crops)
- Commercial (biomanufacturing, biofuels)
- Environmental conservation (bioremediation)
It offers opportunities in research, development, and industry, driving innovation and addressing global challenges.
In coming times with the advancement in healthcare sectors this field will show high growth .
Biotechnology tools will serve major role in india’s growth and development in treating various diseases efficiently.
India is using Ai tools in agriculture biotechnology sectors.
India also has great vaccine production efficiency .
