Rare Case: Parapagus Dicephalus Case in Indore, India

We recently witnessed an extraordinary and rare case in Indore, Madhyapradesh, India - the birth Parapagus Dicephalus conjoined twins, a condition where two heads are joined with single torso and organ system. This rare syndrome characterized by different degree of organs sharing and partial twin fusion, usually at thorax.This may due to incomplete separation of a single fertilized egg during early embroyic development. Many dicephallus parapagus twins are stillborn and die shortly after birth due to there severity of cognetial abornamilities.

Incidence and challenges:

  • Occurs in 1 in 50000 to 100000 globally
  • Survival depends heavily on the extend of share organ and immediate post nastal care support
  • seperation not possible due to shared organ system.
  • Lead motor coordination issue
