Physiotherapy and Its Exposure Among People Living in Kashmir

Physiotherapy is gradually gaining recognition in Kashmir as more people become aware of its role in pain management, rehabilitation, and improving quality of life. With increasing cases of back pain, sports injuries, arthritis, post

surgical rehabilitation, and neurological conditions, the need for physiotherapy services is growing rapidly in the region.

However, awareness among the general population is still limited, especially in rural areas. Many people seek physiotherapy only after chronic pain or severe mobility issues develop. Lack of rehabilitation centers, limited accessibility, and misconceptions about physiotherapy continue to affect its exposure among the public.

Despite these challenges, social media awareness, healthcare campaigns, and the efforts of physiotherapists are helping people understand the importance of early rehabilitation and preventive care. Physiotherapy is not only helping patients recover physically but also improving confidence, mobility, and independence in daily life.

As healthcare awareness increases in Kashmir, physiotherapy has the potential to become a stronger and more accessible part of the healthcare system.

This is great that people in Kashmir are slowly becoming aware of how they can avail the services provided by physiotherapists. Of course, in previous years, people had the misconception that physiotherapy was confined to those with paralysis or for post-fracture movement improvement. With changing times, it’s obvious that many people are participating in outdoor activities and sports, and there is an increasing trend of people joining gyms, so it’s important they consult physiotherapists for the proper methods of exercise and how to deal with muscle fatigue and pain.

Awareness regarding physiotherapy has improved compared to previous years. However, some individuals think that physiotherapy is only for bedridden patients, paralysis cases or post-fracture care. This stigma can be reduced by educating people through social media and healthcare camps, so that people facing musculoskeletal problems feel encouraged to seek physiotherapy and improve their condition.
