There is always question that do pharmacist play role in vaccination. The answer is absolutely yes.
Vaccination is key public health tool that prevents disease, disability and death worldwide.
Role of Pharmacist in vaccination:-
- Communication about immunisation services and campaigns.
- Supply chain and cold chain management.
- Reporting accurate statistics.
- Safe Administration practices.
- Adverse events following immunisation.
As a Pharm D student… need to be consideration that Pharmacovigilance is also playing important role in Vaccination by detecting, assessing,understanding, preventing adverse effect of vaccines by many ways.
Pharmacist can also play role in monitoring of vaccination:-
- Maintain accurate vaccination records.
- Update immunisation details in Road-to-health-Booklet
- Keep immunisation records atleast for 5 years.
As a Pharm.D student, I had the opportunity to participate in a 6-day Polio Vaccine Dose Campaign in that I took responsibility of vaccines prevention through cold chain management. In that I got to learn the vaccine condition by there symbols which is made on vials. As future pharmacists, our responsibility doesn’t end with dispensing medicines. We also have a duty to educate people, address vaccine hesitancy, promote immunization, and monitor vaccine safety through pharmacovigilance.
Conclusion:-Promoting vaccination isn’t just part of our profession—it’s one of our prime responsibilities.
