Periods - Mood swings and cravings

Many people notice mood swings, irritability, low energy levels and food cravings around periods. These changes are mainly caused by hormonal fluctuations, especially changes in estrogen and progesterone levels during menstrual cycle. These hormone also effects serotonin which is mainly responsible for emotional stability.

Cravings, mostly sweets is common. During these days, the body is low on energy and blood sugar levels fluctuate, making the cravings stronger. Lack of sleep, stress also causes mood swings.

Small lifestyle changes such as eating balanced meals, staying hydrated, light exercise, and getting enough rest can help manage these symptoms better.
