One minute. Five Signs. A Lifetime Impact

Agpar score was created about 70 years ago by Dr. Virginia Agpar and this 5 indicator assessment is still used for newborns. Its scored from 0 to 2 points, first after 1 minutes. after the birth and second after 5 minutes
Its used to check
Appearance - skin color
Grimace - reflexes
Pulse - heart rate
Activity - muscle tone
Respiration - breathing

Have you seen cases where the Agpar score didn’t match the baby’s outcome ?

Yes. Cerebral Palsy - The most common case in neurological physiotherapy. APGAR score helps us to the level of extent. It’s a great indicator to measure the growth and development and functioning of the newborn.

Very nicely explained. There have been instances where the APGAR hasn’t matched the outcome and baby has developed seizures later on and has been rushed to the NICU.
Consistently monitoring in such cases is key if the score and outcome dont match.
It should not be ignored, parents should be explained sign to keep an eye on after delivery.
