US-FDA has approved once weekly insulin injection (Insulin Efsitora alfa-gobe).
Insulin Efsitora is a fusion protein containing a single chain insulin variant linked to the Fc domain of human immunoglobulin G2. This IgG2 Fc domain binds to the neonatal Fc receptors (FcRn) and protects it from rapid enzymatic degradation, thus prolonging the half life of the drug.
Indications:

To improve glycemic control in adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus.

It is not to be used in Type 1 diabetes mellitus as it can lead to increased risk of severe hypoglycemia.
Route of administration : It is given subcutaneously on the same day every week.
Effectiveness : Four randomized, open-label, active-controlled studies conducted in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus produced similar results in HbA1c reduction compared with once-daily insulin glargine or insulin degludec.
Safety : Most common adverse reactions include hypoglycemia, hypersensitivity, injection site reactions, pruritis(itching), edema(swelling), rash and weight gain.
