Night Blindness: The Hidden Danger After Sunset

In today’s fast-paced, screen-dominated world, night blindness (nyctalopia) is becoming more relevant due to a mix of lifestyle, nutrition, and health conditions.

Common Reasons:

Lack of Vitamin A (from foods like carrots, spinach, eggs)

Cataracts (cloudy eye lens)

Genetic eye problems

Diabetes or eye injuries

Why It Still Matters Today:

  1. Digital Eye Strain & Low Light Exposure

Constant screen use (phones, laptops) reduces exposure to natural light.

Eyes become less adaptable to sudden darkness or dim lighting.

2.Chronic Diseases on the Rise

Diabetes, hypertension, and eye conditions like glaucoma and cataracts are increasing, leading to more cases of vision problems, including night blindness.

What Can Be Done?

Include Vitamin A-rich foods (carrots, spinach, eggs).

Get regular eye check-ups—especially if diabetic or over 40.

Spend more time in natural daylight when possible.
