Sophisticated equipment such as PCR machines, bioreactors, and sequencing instruments are essential for research, diagnosis, and treatment. However, these machines are highly sensitive, expensive, and require regular maintenance.
In real healthcare settings, especially in government hospitals and primary health centres, machinery-related issues are a daily reality. Some of the key problems include:
• Non-functional machines due to delayed servicing and lack of spare parts
• Frequent power cuts and voltage fluctuations damaging sensitive equipment.
• Shortage of trained technicians to operate advanced biotechnology instruments.
• Overburdened machines due to high patient load, leading to faster wear and tear.
• Outdated or obsolete equipment still being used for diagnostics.
• Patients being referred to private labs due to unavailable or broken machines.
• Delayed reports affecting timely diagnosis and treatment.
These challenges directly impact patient care and reduce the efficiency of healthcare delivery. Inaccurate results due to poor calibration or machine faults can lead to misdiagnosis, posing serious risks to patients.
The high cost of procurement and maintenance further limits access to modern machinery, particularly in rural areas. This creates a gap between urban and rural healthcare systems.
