Its okay to complain about a degree you chose

I am a BSc Biochemistry student, and I absolutely adore the degree I’m studying for. I chose this degree out of my own free will, and no impositions were placed on me. My family was very supportive of whatever i wanted to choose as my career. However, there are days when studying about the G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) that detect extracellular signals and initiate intracellular cascades to alter cellular function can be exhausting and strenuous. On those days when I complain that I’m tired of doing this degree, it doesn’t mean I don’t like the degree “i chose on my own” it just means i need a break. Why is it such a bad thing to ask for understanding? Why am I always told that “ you chose it, now deal with it.” But aren’t i already? Sometimes just saying out loud that I NEED A BREAK, helps. It feels good, it feels human.

To anyone who’s ever been told “Don’t complain about a degree you chose”, I say you reply with “my degree, my pain, my opinions”. You cannot tell me i cannot be overwhelmed and exhausted about studying a degree that’s still so vast and complex that it still undergoes constant change and experimentation.
Give me a break and just listen to me.

True. Feeling tired from a degree by constantly working towards is completely ok. The sad part is that people often misunderstand and start criticizing the student for feeling this rather than understanding what they are going through.
