Is the poultry in our country actually safe to consume?

With increasing number of non vegetarians in India poultry has became the major protein source and the meat choice for majority of non vegetarians in India and people who rely on animal source for their nutrition.

In past 20 years the industry has changed a lot with the introduction of genetically modified organisms modified living conditions and the nutrition given to the poultry and other animals has changed a lot including artificial growth hormones and factors , steroids, vaccines and many more.

We really don’t know what is the long term effect of the genetically modified organisms and the organisms we breed to produce superior qualities

Take an example of a chicken

It is hached using automatic incubator and then it is subjected to several growth factors and steriodal injections to enhance the growth rate , and that’s how chicken that should be an adult in all about 6 to 8 months is grown into an adult in just 2 months.

Researchers are discovering more and more complications with the human body when consuming these protein sources like

  • Antibiotic resistance
  • Increased inflammation
  • Increase risk for chronic disease
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Liver and kidney damage
  • Increased risk for cancer

What according to you are the dynamics that are really influencing the health rest in case of poultry consumption in India? Would you make sure poultry is safe to consume or shift to alternatives to remove any kind of risk ?

The real issue is how responsibly it’s produced, handled, and regulated.

Yes, unless the rules are very stringent, these industries are bound to be foul in their practices which is likely going to affect the many who consume the meat

Our food quality has deteriorated to a great degree. It feels like everything is adulterated. The authorities and ethical bodies responsible for maintaining food quality and sanitation play an important role here. Maybe it’s high time the elephant in the room is questioned, unless we want to carry that elephant on our shoulders.

I feel better to start doing own poultry like country people grow their own food , vegetables and meat , no policy would match it’s quality, relying on someone is not a better idea, if people start growing their own food , policies would start giving quality food supply…
