Is Going Abroad Still the Ultimate PharmD Dream?

Let’s be real
many of us joined PharmD thinking we’d land in the US, Canada, or UK one day.

And for a lot of us, that was the goal:

Better pay
More clinical roles
Prestige and freedom

But now… the picture feels different.

Some are choosing to stay in India and build something here.
Some realized abroad isn’t always glamorous.
Some still dream of that white coat life in the West.

So tell me honestly
Where do you stand today?
-Stay and grow here?
-Still aiming to go abroad?
-Or… not sure anymore?

Drop your mindset in the comments ,
let’s see how the PharmD community is thinking in 2025.

I will stay here and grow with my family.
Going abroad means going away from family friends just for more money or growth but while staying here with family i will grow and making money also.

Settling in abroad isn’t always glamorous, it is full of thorns on the way for the better future.
This one should be aware of both pros and cons of settling in abroad

Honestly, I did dream of going abroad initially for better clinical exposure, growth, and opportunities. But over time, I’ve also started seeing the potential to grow here in India.

Right now, I’m open to both paths. If the right chance comes abroad, I’ll take it. But I’m also not blindly chasing it anymore, I’m focused on building skills and staying flexible with where life takes me.

as a pharmacy student, i sometimes feels like going abroad may be better. But at the same time, it felt like staying here matters more than going far away from where we belong.

My opinion would be staying in India means being close to my roots, supporting my family, and contributing directly to the healthcare needs of our own people.
There’s so much potential here, from creating awareness to improving access to medicines and guiding rational drug use.

I want to stand and grow where I was born, because it’s truly the place I belong to. If everyone goes abroad, who is going to progress the recognition of Pharm. D. in India.

Honestly, I used to dream of going abroad for better opportunities, but now I’m more open to staying in India and making a mark here. The scope is growing, and sometimes building something from the ground up feels more fulfilling than chasing what looks glamorous from afar.

Many PharmD students once dreamed of moving abroad to places like the US, Canada, or UK for better pay, more clinical roles, and prestige. But lately, opinions are shifting. Some students are choosing to build their careers in India, valuing family, roots, and the growing opportunities at home. Others still hope to go abroad but recognize it’s not always easy or glamorous. And several are undecided, staying flexible, working on skills, and open to whichever path suits them best.

I agree with you :100:

Take a lot of time , money and efforts …well best

Going to abroad was not my reason to join Pharm.D and yes, jobs in abroad pay better than Indian companies but it has it’s risks. We can still make our living better here in India with experience and most important of all living in our own country among our own people.

Doing M. Pharm in India or abroad it all depends on your interest and intent what you want to do further.
If you are getting sufficient scholarship and good university admission abroad then its worth doing it. You should get the return on your investment if you plan to go abroad and peruse your further study there.

Honestly, the dream of going abroad still exists for many—but it’s not the only goal anymore.

The global exposure, pay, and clinical opportunities are tempting, but now we’re also seeing growth in India—more hospitals hiring PharmDs, better roles, and even chances to contribute to policy or research.

Right now, I’m open to both. If the right opportunity comes abroad, I’d take it. But I’m also not ignoring what can be built here.
