Is drinking less water the only cause of kidney stones?

What exactly are kidney stones?
Kidney stones are clusters of minerals and salt. They are formed inside the urinary tract, most commonly in the kidneys.
How to identify kidney stone pain?
Kidney stones most commonly present with flank pain(pain in the side or lower back below the ribs), but sometimes there is pain in the lower belly as well when the stone moves from the kidney to the ureter. The nature of this pain is mostly wavelike.
What are the other symptoms seen along with this pain?
- Nausea and vomiting,
- Fever and chills,
- Pain while urinating,
- Constant urge to urinate but urinating in small amounts,
- Foul-smelling and cloudy urine,
- Sometimes blood in the urine.
What causes kidney stones?
- Along with drinking less water,
- Other causes include eating foods rich in oxalate, sodium (salt), calcium, protein, and sugar. ex. overconsumption of meat, leafy vegetables, beetroot, sweet potatoes, and sugary foods;
- Family history of kidney stones;
- Having a digestion-related disease; and
- Having undergone intestinal bypass surgery can increase the risk of forming kidney stones.

How to treat kidney stones?
If your kidney stones are small, then your healthcare provider may recommend that you pass them, although it can be quite painful; the pain can often be managed with certain medications.
- Drinking up to 3 liters of water per day can help pass small stones.
- Medications like alpha-blockers may help to pass the stones by relaxing the muscles in the ureter.
- To deal with the pain that comes along with passing stones, your physician might prescribe NSAID’s.
But if the stones are large, then surgery might be advised; surgical treatments like
- Ureteroscopy
- Shock wave lithotripsy
- Percutaneous nephrolithotomy
