Infectious diseases and microbiology

This topic is all about how infectious diseases and their role in microbiology.

Infectious diseases:

Infectious diseases are illness caused by pathogenic microorganisms that invade the human body and multiply. The infection get spreads in overall body and it causes damage to body.

Type of Infectious Agent:

  • Bacteria - mycobacterium tuberculosis, Escherichia Coli.
  • Viruses - HIV , Influenza viruses, SARS-COV-2.
  • Fungi - Candida Albicans, Aspergillus spp.
  • Parasites - Plasmodium, etc.

Mode of transmission:

There are different modes of transmission of these diseases.

  • Direct contact if one person is infected and if that person come in contact then the healthy person may get affected.
  • Airborne (droplets, aerosols): due to air droplets present in the air the infection get spreads to people in that specific area. And cause different types of infection in the body.
  • Fecial or oral route : causes due to use of same toothbrush or may cause due to using same drinking glass or waterbottle.

Vector - borne (mosquito, ticks) : this is the major problem in villages due to storing water in drums or buckets. The mosquito lay eggs and also spread diseases. Blood and body fluids: this can cause due to sexually transmitting diseases itโ€™s again a serious problem in many couples trying to conceive.

Some common infectious diseases :

  • Tuberculosis
  • COVID-19
  • Malaria
  • Dengue fever, etc .

Microbiology:

Microbiology is branch of science that studies microorganisms, including their structure, function, genetic, and role in diseases.

Role of microbiology in Infectious diseases:

  • Identification of causative organisms
  • Diagnosis using microscopy, culture , and molecular method.
  • Antibiotic sensitivity testing.
  • Surveillance of infectious diseases.
  • Infection prevention and control.

Prevention And Control:

  • Proper vaccination should be taken on time .
  • Hand hygiene should be maintained properly. Proper soap should be used for cleaning hand and sanitizer should be used which contains 70% ethanol or alcohol.
  • Drink safe water use proper sources for drinking water.
  • Also practice proper infectious control practices.

Public health should be maintained and and take care of yourself self and environment.
