What happens to the human body after months in space?
NASA astronaut and emergency physician Dr. Anil Menon is set to spend eight months aboard the ISS, conducting research that could improve astronaut health during future Moon and Mars missions—and unlock new medical breakthroughs on Earth.
Yeah, it can become a next bigger achievement when you try to test medicine and its effects on body at extreme cold temperatures it will give a data about a drug whether it can withstand to that temperature or not, it’s an interesting experiment and quite risky too and needs trained workers and scientists to carry out the process which can lead to better achievements
This is most crucial step and decision because since a long time human research about the space and finding habitual place like earth, but how will human body survive, how the space atmosphere affect human biology both macro and microscopically, how the muscle, bone and blood in blood vessel get affected by it.These all question should be analyzed carefully and deeply.
It may open a new door for the scientists. This study helps to understand our body better and may help to find any hidden features of our system. It also helps to modify the facilities in space for the astronauts.
This could become an even greater achievement. Testing medicines and their effects under extremely cold temperatures can provide valuable insights into a drug’s stability, effectiveness, and performance in extreme conditions. Although it is a complex and high-risk area of research that requires experienced scientists and trained professionals, the knowledge gained could drive meaningful advancements in pharmaceutical research and the development of more resilient medicines.
As a biotechnology student, I find topics like this so exciting. It’s amazing to see how space exploration and healthcare come together in ways that could benefit life on Earth.
Such an interesting person is Dr. Anil Menon, apart from being an astronaut he is working as emergency medicine physician and also teaching the residents
Research on space pharmacology will greatly benefit future space missions. Drug potency is affected by temperature, longer radiation exposure, and several other factors. Research would help in new drug formulations can stay stable for a longer duration .
It’s like witnessing the beginning of a new era. An era where doctors are not just confined to the hospitals and OTs but also in the space shaping for the better future of Space Medicine.
This mission is a great example of how space research can benefit healthcare on Earth. Studying how the human body adapts to microgravity could lead to new insights into bone loss, muscle wasting, cardiovascular health, and even aging. It’s exciting to see medicine and space science coming together.
