I Wish I Someone had answered this in my student life

Like every one, my student life was mainly focused on having good grades, being an ideal student, having good friends. Once i stepped into the real world, it was hard for me to face reality. It was a hard for me to handle some difficult situations like facing arguments, defending yourself when you are right, managing finances. Then i had a big question?? Why was i not told that i will have to face all these. was Grades only not enough to reach where you want to??? Though i gradually learnt to manage all these. Many times “I wish someone had answered this in my student life”- Taught me only grades were not enough and guided what other qualities i must learn to sustain in the real world.

What is your experience?? What is that question you wish someone had answered earlier in your student life?

Many of us focus only on grades in student life and feel unprepared for real-world challenges like handling conflicts and managing money.

Well idk about your case but i’ve seen many parents, they ask their kids to just focus on good grades, which is very wrong according to me. The world is really cruel to innocent souls. I was quiet rebellious, even that was also quiet problematic for me. But tbh it really prepared me enough to handle certain difficult people and situations. So kids should be aware of everything.

I feel the same, if only someone taught us to focus on building skills than focusing on grades maybe most of us would’ve a clear picture.

Exactly, the guardians of the kids often overlook these social skills. Building bookworms is a thing of pride, but reality differs and hits hard when it has to be faced. What I feel is that every student during their college times must shift out of their home, which helps them build the confidence the real world needs.

Why weren’t life skills taught alongside academic excellence?

This hits home! Good grades only take us so far in medicine. What really matters is grit, adaptability, and learning skills beyond rote memorization. I wish someone had explained why medicine is difficult instead of just instilling fear and helped us learn how to learn, rather than just counting pages or hours per day.

This resonates to me a lot, being a student myself. I have these questions popping up in intense situations, where I was never been told how to handle such situations.

It is not always important to succeed; sometimes failure teaches more than success because you know what not to do the next time.

Relatable,Student life often prepares us to score well, but not always to navigate conflict, finances, or self-advocacy.I’ve also realized that grades may open doors, but resilience, communication, and emotional strength help us stay inside.
I sometimes wish someone had emphasized life skills as much as academic success.

Its important to make oneself strong besides grades..real life is different.

Student-life is not only about learning the course you stepped in but also about learning life-lessons .

Managing a clinic is very different from treating patients during dental college. If practice management isn’t formally taught, there should at least be general guidelines on the real world challenges, like handling dental lab coordination and communication, managing patient interactions, and effective counseling.

Very true! In our country, education is all just textbook-oriented. In my childhood, I in my childhood had an immense interest in weird things science can do, like genetic engineering etc., and I always had a doubt about what I should pursue to be able to do this, but people around saw it only as an interest in medical science and told me to pursue mbbs, I wish someone told me about the other ways too!

So relatable. Grades may open doors, but communication skills, emotional resilience, and financial awareness are what truly help us stay and grow in the real world.
