Human Papiloma Virus: Why Every Girl Should Get it.

Human Papiloma Viruse (HPV) is one of the most common viral infection worldwide - and it’s not just “another” infection. Certain strains of HPV are directly linked to cervical cancer, as well as other cancers like vaginal, vulvar, anal, and throat cancer.

Here are the good news: We now have a safe, effective vaccine that can prevent most HPV-related cancer before they even start.

Why should every girl get it

  • Protect against cervical cancer - Almost 99% cervical cancer are linked with HPV. Vaccination can reduce your lifetime risk significantly.
  • Work best before exposure - The vaccine is more effective when given before sexualt activity begins - that’s why it’s recommended for girls aged 9-14 years.
  • Long-term Protection - Research shows immunity fromthe HPV vaccine lasts for many years, giving long lasting defence against the virus.
  • Prevent other HPV related disease - Beside cervical cancer, it helps prevent genital warts and several other HPV-related cancer.

Key Recommendation:

  • Ideally 9-14 years are recommended, but catch up vaccine is possible upto 26 years.
  • Usually 2 dose if started before age 15, after 15 take 3 dose.
  • Approved by WHO, CDC and other health authorities worldwide. Side effects are generally mild, like arm soreness or mild fever.

Your Health is your best asset - protect it early.

Women, including those who advocate for or benefit from health advancements like the HPV vaccine, often play a critical role in improving global health—through science, medicine, or education. The HPV vaccine, for instance, empowers girls and women by protecting them from cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases, enabling them to lead healthier, more impactful lives. Yet, society sometimes unfairly questions women for pursuing these broader contributions, expecting them to prioritize domestic responsibilities over their professional or societal roles.

This double standard overlooks the fact that women’s health and empowerment—supported by measures like vaccination—enable them to “heal the world” in countless ways, whether through careers, advocacy, or leadership. The HPV vaccine is a tool that supports this by reducing health barriers, yet cultural expectations can still challenge women’s choices to engage beyond the home.

HPV vaccination is indeed one of the strongest cancer prevention tools that’s available today. This vaccine does not just provide benefits against cervical cancer; but it also protects against few other types of cancers like anal, throat, genital cancer etc. which are also caused by HPV. This vaccination is more like a public health strategy that can immensely provide protection towards safe fertility in women.
