During my recent visit to India, I saw a raging debate about HPV vaccine. Many people and some groups were opposing it, directly accusing Bill Gates that he wants to decrease human population to half, thus why should we believe vaccines promoted by him.
What you think about all this issue?
Do you think HPV vaccine is relevant in India? Should it be given in pediatric age group (starting age is 11 years, but even earlier at 9 years, it can be given) as recommended?

Honestly, I feel most of the fear comes from misinformation. HPV vaccine has good evidence behind it and can help prevent cervical cancer, which is quite common in India. The focus should be more on awareness so people can take informed decisions.
In india it should be start to given children at age (9 to 11) because hpv vaccine is protected from Human Papillomavirus, which can lead to cancer like disease.
HPV vaccine should be relevant in India . If it can prevent cervical cancer in women then why not? The vaccines are regulated by independent foundations like WHO which is funded by people like Bill gates . They can’t force the governments to give this vaccines to their citizens . If it is backed by actual research and data , if the results are there , then definitely should be given to girls .
Cervical cancers in women are increasing cases in our country and is diagnosed to many women . HPV vaccines reduces the burden of the diseases before originating and can control several cancer cases and should be given to the population to save future lives. Campaigns, government programs should be launched to educate our society about the disease and effectiveness of vaccination which will surely reduce the cases in future.
yes..
honestly, I feel the HPV vaccine is highly relevant and important in India,
cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among in Indian women. I read that every year roughly 80k women in India die from the disease. According to the IAP - recommends vaccination starting from the age of 9.
vaccination at early stage as recommended, can play a significant role in preventing it. if we have safe and effective way to reduce this burden, it’s definitely worth considering.
So, the problem arose when in 2009-10 PATH funded by Bill Gate launched the “Clinical trial” of the vaccine where vaccines in various state were administered to girls aging 10-12 in school itself. Leading death of 7 girls. Which was later said was not because of the vaccine. Japan in 2011 suspended the vaccine due to its side effects. And it was suspended by supreme court in India for Consent issue, ethical Lapses and Adverse effect.
India being the greatest nation regarding developing and manufacturing drugs. Then why are we “depending” on Bill Gate ? We currently use CERVAVAC developed by serum institute of India cost is affordable have manageable side effects Then why are we running towards some Foreign companies using us as "Clinical Trial’? We do need to think about it.
Agreed. Considering the disease itself could be a major health burden, causing consumption of our healt resources ultimately, prevention is always the better cure.
Since HPV is linked to cervical and other cancers, early vaccination is important, especially before any exposure to the virus. That’s why the recommended age group of around 9–14 years makes sense medically, as the vaccine is most effective when given earlier. I feel the hesitation many people have is not always about the vaccine itself, but more about trust in authorities and lack of awareness. With better education and transparent research, preventive vaccines like this can be more easily accepted.
The HPV vaccine debate in India often gets clouded by conspiracy theories, but the science is clear, HPV is a leading cause of cervical cancer, and vaccination can prevent thousands of deaths.
Polio eradication once thought nearly impossible given the population size of India was a huge success in Indian history. And we have a structured vaccination programme for kids which is running successfully. So, HPV vaccination arising debate should be tackled by creating awareness, addressing misconception and improving accessibility too.
Relevant researches says that HPV vaccine should be administered between the age group you mentioned. As for the conspiracy theories, I believe that those should be ignored as we are “followers” of science where without proper and authentic evidence, nothing is approved. Someday, someone will thank Medical Sciences for saving them from cervical cancer.
HPV 2009-10 controversy it was The Project : PATH a Seattle based non-profit , funded by Bill & Melinda GatesFoundation initiated a demonstration project in Andhra Pradesh & Gujarat .7 girls died ,but investigation didn’t establish a casual link with the vaccine .
Despite the historical controversy, India launched a nationwide 90 day HPV Vaccination campaign targeting 14 yr old girls.
Well India faces a high burden of cervical cancer , with roughly 120,000 new & 80,000 deaths annually. The Indian govt. & WHO maintain that the vaccine is safe & essential.
So I feel vaccination is important but it should be life giving not life threatening.
I feel more awareness campaigns regarding diseases caused by HPV virus and also about HPV vaccine should be organised. People should be assured regarding the safety of HPV vaccine and yes in India this vaccine is relevant and should be made accessible to everyone.
