Biotechnology is a field, where what’s the financial benefit ahead through a career, many are not aware, mostly women. In reality, this field is very vast and in recent times, there’s a variety of careers that can be taken in this field. Mostly women who have a married life and family responsibilities, even they can take multiple freelancing and advisor or consultant roles. Many roles can be taken remotely, so that a woman can pursue a career without compromising it considering the familial responsibilities that comes along with. To support and encourage more women to join in biotechnology industry, workshops and trainings can be conducted mostly letting them know about the flexible and vast range of career opportunities that it can provide. There are significant women fellowships available supported by GOI for women to pursue research, the awareness related should be conveyed to them early on like during the undergraduate journey. Besides, what up-skilling they can do, which can serve as a beneficial add-on, the women should be informed about that through various conferences or related modes.

Absolutely @Manisha. Small actions like these can create a big impact. When people feel safe and respected it builds a stronger, more understanding community for everyone.

Definitely @Nandhini_23
It’s a great way to boost diversity and innovation in the field.

Seeing real role models makes a big difference in encouraging participation.

Absolutely @dripsitapujari. Many women don’t realize how flexible and rewarding a career in biotechnology can be. With options like freelancing, consulting and remote work, it’s possible to balance family and career. Spreading awareness through workshops and training especially about fellowships and upskilling can really help more women step confidently into this field. Starting this early, even during undergrad, makes a big difference.

From what I’ve heard, biomedical sciences is a largely female-domianted field now, and the numbers have only been growing in recent times. Women need to be given chances and be allowed to make career decisions for themselves. They must also be made aware of the myriad potential career paths that await them early on in their schooling through sufficient exposure.

Absolutely, you’ve made a very important point @caryn
Biomedical sciences have seen a strong rise in female participation, which is a great step forward. But it’s not just about numbers—it’s about giving women the freedom to choose their own paths. Early exposure to the wide range of career options is key. When girls are informed and encouraged from a young age, they’re more likely to pursue fields like science with confidence and purpose. Equality starts with opportunity and awareness.

Firstly ask them about their dreams and what they want to do for their dreams. Secondly provide that much secure and safe place to work. Seeing lots of women in this field and achieving their goals fulfilling their dreams attract lots of women for biotech.

Highlighting diverse role , supporting women through mentorship programs and making inclusive hiring practices where all voices are heard will encourage more women to lead in biotech. When women see other women valued and suceed, they will be inspired to join biotech.

Introduction of talks and sessions in schools by women mentors from different biotech fields. This will also create awareness about different sectors and job roles that many students remain unaware of.
