A healthy lifestyle should be the foremost priority. In children, instilling that healthy lifestyle becomes somewhat challenging.
It all starts at an early age. Early habits last long. Children are difficult in terms of maintaining their daily routine, dietary habits, and mindset.
There is a rule, which is 5-2-1-0; this can help to modify lifestyle in children. It includes:
-
5 fruits and vegetables a day
-
2 hours or less of screen time per day (or a healthy, balanced limit you’ve set in your family media plan)
-
1 hour of physical activity a day
-
0 limit sugar-sweetened drinks
This helps to improve immunity by including fruits and vegetables, which provide adequate nutrition—minerals and vitamins—to the body.
Excess screen time can result in a hampered sleep cycle, excess eating, or reduced physical activities.
Practical strategies include screen-free meals, tech-free bedrooms, and replacing passive screen time with creative play or outdoor activities.
Physical movement becomes essential for health. This can help in improving the health of bones, muscles, and the cardiovascular system. Also help to improve the appetite of a child.
Sugary drinks are one of the most significant barriers to good nutrition for kids. They deliver calories without nutrients, spike blood sugar, and reduce appetite for real food. Also increases the chance of having dental caries and dental infections.
Each component has an important role in children’s growth, nutrition, and overall health.
