Forensic odontology, also known as forensic dentistry, is a specialised branch of dental science utilised in legal investigations. The branch has been used in case solving for many years. Adolf Hitler’s death was confirmed with the help of a dental record. The match of the dental crown and bridge played a pivotal role in his identification. To date, many cases have been solved due to dental evidence. Hence, the branch of forensic dentistry plays a major role in solving medicolegal cases.

There are many other methodologies, including lip print ( cheiloscopy), rugae( rugoscopy), and studying the patterns of enamel ( ameloglyphics). Forensic odontology plays a crucial role in the identification and resolution of criminal and civil proceedings.
