Haemostasis
Disruption of the vascular endothelium following an injury triggers immediate vasoconstriction and exposes the subendothelial extracellular matrix. This is followed by platelet plug formation , release of granules by platelets containing growth factors , and lastly fibrin scaffold formation by thrombin.
2.Inflammatory phase
Divided into Early Inflammatory Phase (Days 1–2) and late Inflammatory Phase (Days 2-3 ): predominanted by PMNLs and macrophages respectively.This stage has traditionally been defined by *rubor* (redness), *tumor* (swelling), *calor* (heat), and *dolor* (pain).
3.Proliferation phase:-
Beginning around day 3 and lasting 2 to 4 weeks, this phase is dominated by fibroblast activity. It involves angiogenesis, re-epithelialisation, and the production of collagen and ground substances.
4.Remodelling
This final phase begins 2 to 3 weeks post-injury and can last for a year or longer.The weaker Type III collagen that was prevalent during the proliferation phase is progressively replaced by stronger Type I collagen until the skin’s normal 4:1 ratio (Type I to Type III) is re-established.
