Our skin comes in different types, and two of the most common are dry and oily skin. Each type has unique characteristics, problems, and care requirements.It is important to understand your skin type to keep it healthy, and prevent issues.
Characteristics of Dry Skin:
- Feels tight, rough, or flaky.
- May appear dull or ashy.
- Prone to redness, itching, and irritation.
- Early signs of aging like fine lines.
Characteristics of Oily Skin:
- Looks shiny, especially on the forehead, nose, and chin.
- Prone to acne, pimples, and blackheads.
- Pores may appear larger.
- Usually feels greasy after a few hours of washing.
Causes:
- Dry skin: Low oil (sebum) production, cold weather, harsh soaps, aging, dehydration.
- Oily skin: Overactive sebaceous glands, hormonal changes, stress, genetics, humid climate.
Tips for Dry Skin:
- Use gentle, hydrating cleansers.
- Moisturise regularly with creams or oils.
- Avoid long hot showers.
- Drink plenty of water.
Tips for Oily Skin:
- Use foaming or gel-based cleansers.
- Avoid heavy creams; use oil-free moisturisers.
- Exfoliate 1–2 times a week.
- Keep a balanced diet and manage stress.
Both dry and oily skin types have their own challenges, but with proper care, skin can stay healthy and glowing.
