Does prescription real matters in india nowadays

What I wanna tell is, in india people don’t go to doctor for many of the disease and infection until it’s very serious they just go and tell the pharmacist some symptoms of the problem and then ask for medicine and the system of medicine is also like that , even the pharmacist don’t suggests patients to go and get the prescription…for sake of money
I know there are some OTC medicine which means they can be given without prescription but in india. People are taking the medicine which are not even OTC medicines…
What do you think should the govt should take the action on it or leave it as it is going

Otc should be limited.

The government should implement a rule that prohibits medical stores from dispensing medicines without a valid medical transcription

Pharmacists should avoid dispensing non-OTC medications without a valid prescription, as it is their professional responsibility to ensure safe and appropriate use. Without proper guidance, there’s no way to know how the patient might use or misuse the medication, potentially leading to serious consequences.

As we all know some medical conditions have OTC medicines, to prevent misuse strict regulations might be required. But completely stopping OTC may be problematic to some people as every body may not be able to afford the general checkups for some symptoms which can be cured by medication rather than medical checkup.

OTC medicines should be taken only for a temporary relief. More than that they should consult a physician for betterment. Taking OTC medicines very often may lead to other worse cases like kidney failure and others. Public should be aware of all these. Proper awareness and guidance should be given.

You’re absolutely right in India, self-medication is deeply normalised , and pharmacists often act as the first line of consultation, especially in rural or underserved areas. While this offers quick relief for minor issues, it also creates major risks.

Government should take action on this. In foreign countries no pharmacist alone prescribe or give medications without doctor’s appointment. In India health care system should be change.

You made a good point. Many people in India take medicines without proper doctor advice. I think the government should make stricter rules and create awareness, so people use medicines safely.

Prescription only medications should only be sold with the presentation of prescription. Its a dangerous trend in India where people are google doctors and self treat. Strict regulations should be called in place.

Otc should be minimum as most of the people think themselves as a genius doctor and get otc medicines for their illness without knowing that medicine can make them more sick if that is not a suitable one for their health.

In India the schedule X drugs which should be given only when the patient have prescription but these schedule X drugs, most of the time given without any prescription. This shows that how strict our policies and rules. In India many people prefer otc drugs due to malpractices. Strict action and rules should be implied in India for controlling the otc and non otc drugs.

Yeah, many people will not go to doctors till it is critical, and one of the reasons is because it is affordable and accessible.Strict monitoring of pharmacies should be conducted, and individuals should be discouraged from administering self-medication by attending physicians.

Yes that’s really true especially in our country , I recently came across one incident where the person was standing right beside me explaining the symptoms to pharmacist for his little daughter …this really made me think like why so many people prefer taking meds from pharmacist, this is only and only because of lack of awareness

In my opinion Taking of the OTC medications will decrease when PCI council warns all the pharmacists as don’t give the medications without prescription. Then by this everyone will go to the doctors within the time.

This is a serious issue. Many people in India take non-OTC medicines without a proper prescription, which can be harmful in the long run. Self-medication might save time and money, but it increases the risk of misuse, side effects, and antibiotic resistance. I think the government should take strict action, ensure better awareness, and regulate medicine sales more closely to protect public health.
