Doctors treating their family members is fair or risky ?

On one hand doctors would understand their family members the best but on the other hand doctor’s emotions could cloud their judgement and decision making skills.
What is your opinion on this ? Is it fair , risky or depends on the situation ?

For minor cases it’s fine but if the issue is major they shouldn’t deal with it

It really depends knowing them helps, but emotions can blur the line.
Sometimes love comforts, sometimes it complicates the call.

emotion is a place where everyone knee down , so its best if a other doctor handle the case

If the doctor and the patient are comfortable, then only they should go ahead.

It depends on the doctor’s emotion, how they approach with the situation and deals with it. Mostly, I think in situation like surgery and all it’s better to handover the case to some others, rather than treated the relative’s doctor, but they can say opinions on it.

Rightly said. In serious situation it would be better if the family doctor would consult another doctor whom they trust the most to deal with such situation.

For minor issues, it’s manageable. But when it comes to critical cases, it’s better not to be part of the medical team.

Treating their own family and friends can be a bit risky for doctors, as emotional involvement may affect their professional judgment.
