Do you think being diagnosed with mental illness is still considered taboo in India?
- Yes— it’s still deeply taboo
- Yes, but only in certain contexts (family, marriage, workplace etc)
- It’s changing— much less of a taboo for younger/urban people
- No—it’s largely normalised now
- It depends more on the illness than the society
- Haven’t given it much thought

Fear of judgement makes it a big taboo.
Once you are diagnosed with a mental disorder; people start to look at you with a ill-minded perspective, like how you react or how you behave.
Frankly speaking, we should not care about social responses; as soon as you feel something is wrong with you, you should get a diagnosis from a doctor. In this way, you may come out from any sort of mental disorder early.
Many people diagnosed with mental illness suffer from social exclusion.Mentally ill people are sometimes subjected to harsh treatment by their own family.
I think cinema has played a big role in making mental illness as a taboo
They try to portray mental ill patients as a harm for society.
