I have known many people around me who are introverts by nature. Recently i came across a video claiming that there is something in a brain of introvert people different than extroverts. However physical structure of the brain remains same. There can be some differences in networking inside the brain and stimulation their brain can take. Im going to list findings from some studies. This studies are mostly association studies they do not declare that introversion or extroversion causes certain brain differences.
Study 1 - Testing predictions from personality neuroscience: brain structures and the big five
- This study studied brains of 116 individuals through MRI.
- One of the hypotheses from this study is extroverts have a thicker tissue( medial orbitofrontal cortex) in the areas involved for motivation and reward.
Study 2- Differences in regional brain volume related to the extraversion-intraversion dimension: A voxel based morphometry study
- Hypothesis from this study was that grey and white matter is larger in introverts. For specific areas responsible for social and emotional behaviour like reflection and self monitoring.
However this studies are mostly association studies and not conclusive.
