Do Indian healthcare workers receive fair pay and work conditions compared to their global counterparts?

Indian healthcare workers often work longer hours for less pay compared to global counterparts despite handling some of the highest pateint loads in the world.

For example an intern doctor in a metro city like banaglore may earn stiped thats just a fraction of what interns in Europe or US receive even though both are expected to work long hours and handle critical cases. Nurses and other health care professionals face this too.

This raises a big question : How do we ensure fair compensation while making sure healthcare is affordable in developing countries ? Should India focus on matching global standards or on better working conditions with government subsidies ? It’s time India devalued it’s healthcare workforce

As year by year number of doctors, pharmacists and nurses and etc are increasing I think the most common factor for ‘salary’ that is scarcity and demand will go down and as well the salaries for entry levels ,

However, as people with more skill and better tactics will rise above all their salaries will increase and people with mediocre mindset and hand to mouth strategy will remain there.

Yes compensation for skilled people professional is fair.

Still people with no skill want to have more salary just because they are there in the field for a time being

Many Indian healthcare workers are doing incredible work under tough conditions and long hours, often with lower pay compared to similar roles in other countries. Improving salaries, providing fair non-monetary benefits, and ensuring safer working environments could go a long way not just for worker morale, but for patient care quality too.

Indian healthcare workers received less pay compared to those in other countries as an intern it totally depends on your time specially if we are involved as fresher

True the salary is less in India as compared to other countries.

In India, I feel the problem is not just about paying the healthcare workers (doctors and nurses) more, but about how the whole healthcare system is funded. One way to make things fair is to pay healthcare workers not only for the number of patients they see, but also for how much they improve the health of people. The government can support this by giving subsidies for preventive as well as primary care, so fewer people end up needing expensive hospital treatment. If public and private systems work together and focus solely on results, healthcare can stay affordable, while workers are paid fairly. In today’s time, India needs to value the skills of healthcare workforce immensely by linking pay with better health outcomes for society.

If we compare the medical workers from the world, their is a huge difference in many ways:

a. Better pay scale

b. Beneficiaries

c. Respect

Yes compensation is the main drawback in India for the health care professionals than compare to the other country.both are working long hour ,but indian doctors ,pharmacist ,Nurses, getting less pay scale ,respect

Well put

You 've raised a very important point .Fair compensation for healthcare workers is essential not only for their well being but also for sustaining a string healthcare system .While matching global scales may not be immediately feasible due to difference in economic conditions India can focus on

  • Improving working conditions ( reasonable hours , better infrastructure , safety at work )
  • Providing government subsidies or incentives ( Housing , education benefits , tax relief )
  • Introducing transparent pay scales to ensure dignity and reduce exploitation
  • Investing in long term reforms like increasing healthcare budget allocation .

Indian healthcare workers face challenges with fair pay and work conditions compared to global counterparts, including:

- Low pay

- Demanding work conditions

- Gender pay gap (women earn 34% less)

Potential solutions include increased funding, policy reforms, and adopting global standards for fair compensation and working conditions.

Absolutely, Indian healthcare workers are paid much less compared to other countries. Despite working tirelessly to provide better care and treatment to the patients, healthcare professionals are not properly acknowledged in terms of remuneration. I think by providing better working environment, ensuring adequate staffing and fixed shifts, and establishing minimum wage standards would help the situation to some extend.

You made such a strong point. Healthcare workers here really do so much with so little in return. I agree it’s not just about matching global salaries, but at least giving fair pay, safe working hours, and proper support. Maybe government subsidies and better policies can balance both—keeping care affordable for patients while respecting the value of our doctors, nurses, and staff.

This post really highlights a serious issue. Our healthcare workers give so much long hours, emotional stress, and huge patient loads but their pay doesn’t match their efforts. It’s unfair when interns and nurses in India earn far less than those abroad, even with similar responsibilities. I feel India should focus on improving working conditions first, with better support and fairer pay through government help.

As someone in healthcare, I feel this deeply. It’s not just about low pay, it’s about feeling undervalued despite giving our time, energy, and even health to patients.

Frankly speaking as per the current situation I don’t think the healthcare worker are getting the pay they deserve cause there are lots of discrepancy in the NHM and other healthcare bodies in different states and central authorities.

The Govt should bring some strict rules and ensure all are getting paid well, atleast according to the work they are doing

So true!

This is sheer exploitation of health workers. There should be proper law and rules on this for all health care providers.Better work hours , proper rest and fair wages are basic rights of every citizen.

Its true!
And because of that now doctors are moving to abroad.
They know their value and skills which they don’t want to waste here.
And because of that india is not growing properly in healthcare as not proper skill doctors are willing to work in india . Everyone wants to move out.
